In a Qualcomm-controlled Snapdragon Summit demonstration reported by HotHardware, a Snapdragon 8 Elite reference device scored higher than an unspecified, battery-powered Intel Lunar Lake laptop in Geekbench 6 CPU tests. That is evidence of what those two systems scored in that demonstration—not proof that Snapdragon 8 Elite phones generally outperform Lunar Lake laptops.

What the Geekbench 6 demonstration showed

At the October 21, 2024 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm demonstrated CPU benchmark results for a Snapdragon 8 Elite reference device and a Lunar Lake laptop. HotHardware reported the following scores:

Geekbench 6 CPU test Snapdragon 8 Elite reference device Lunar Lake laptop
Single-thread 3,209 1,370
Multi-thread 10,205 7,361

These are the figures from Qualcomm’s demonstration as reported by HotHardware; they are not independently verified measurements here. The demo showed the phone reference device scoring higher in both Geekbench 6 CPU tests than the particular laptop used.

Why the result does not settle Snapdragon versus Lunar Lake

  • The comparison was Qualcomm-controlled. Qualcomm provided the demonstration setup, so the reported results should be treated as a vendor-run comparison rather than an independent, matched test.
  • The laptop was on battery. Laptop performance can vary with its power profile and whether it is plugged in. The report does not establish how this specific laptop was configured beyond its battery operation.
  • The Intel hardware was not identified. HotHardware did not name the laptop or its exact Lunar Lake processor model. It would be speculation to assign a specific Core Ultra 200V SKU to the result.
  • Geekbench measures only part of performance. These are synthetic CPU benchmark scores, not measurements of graphics, sustained performance, battery life, application speed, or software compatibility.

For those reasons, the scores support a narrow conclusion about this demonstration. They do not show how every Snapdragon 8 Elite handset compares with every Lunar Lake laptop, or which device is better for a particular workload.

What these chips are—and what the benchmark leaves out

Snapdragon 8 Elite is a mobile platform built around Qualcomm’s second-generation custom Oryon CPU, alongside Adreno graphics and a Hexagon NPU, according to Qualcomm’s October 21, 2024 launch announcement. Intel identifies Core Ultra 200V as its Lunar Lake mobile client processor family, introduced on September 3, 2024, in its Core Ultra Series 2 press kit. These platforms are used in different kinds of consumer devices; a CPU benchmark alone does not compare their complete user experiences.

Qualcomm’s announcement described the platform and smartphone makers expected to launch devices with it. Those launch-era statements do not establish current availability or regional configurations for any particular phone. A phone-level comparison needs an exact retail model and market, not just the platform name.

What a fairer comparison would require

A useful head-to-head test should identify the exact phone and laptop models and processor SKUs, then control or report the conditions that can change results. It should also look beyond one CPU benchmark.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Identify both retail systems. Record the phone model, laptop model, and exact processor in each; the Lunar Lake model in the reported demo is not disclosed.
  2. Match the benchmark conditions. Use the same Geekbench version on both systems and report whether the laptop is plugged in or on battery, along with its selected power mode.
  3. Keep CPU results distinct. Report single-thread and multi-thread scores separately rather than treating one score as a complete performance ranking.
  4. Test the tasks readers care about. Add relevant application and graphics tests, sustained-performance measurements, battery-life testing, and checks for software compatibility.

HotHardware’s report provides the demo scores and some important context, but it does not supply this broader, matched comparison. The benchmark is therefore a point of interest—not, by itself, a buying recommendation.
