Qualcomm completed its acquisition of Alphawave Semi on December 18, 2025. The approximately $2.4 billion figure refers to the implied enterprise value Qualcomm announced in June 2025; Qualcomm later reported a $2.3 billion accounting purchase price. The deal adds high-speed wired connectivity technology, custom silicon, and chiplet expertise to Qualcomm’s data-center ambitions.
What Qualcomm bought
Alphawave Semi developed high-speed wired connectivity technologies, intellectual property, custom silicon, connectivity products, and chiplets. These are business-to-business semiconductor technologies for moving data between components and supporting computing systems, rather than a consumer device.
Qualcomm said Alphawave’s wired connectivity and compute technologies complement its Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors. In its June 9, 2025 announcement, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon described the fit this way: “Qualcomm’s advanced custom processors are a natural fit for data center workloads.” Qualcomm’s acquisition announcement framed the transaction as part of the company’s effort to expand into data centers amid demand for computing capacity for AI inference.

Why the deal has two different price figures
The $2.4 billion headline figure and the $2.3 billion figure in Qualcomm’s later filing describe different measures, not competing versions of the same reported amount.
#1 Best Overall
- The world's best gaming desktop processor that can deliver ultra-fast 100+ FPS performance in the world's most popular games
- 12 Cores and 24 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 5" architecture
- 5.6 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 76 MB cache, DDR5-5600 support

- Cooler not included
| Figure | What it describes | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|
| Approximately US$2.4 billion | Implied enterprise value for the recommended acquisition | Qualcomm’s announcement on June 9, 2025 |
| $2.3 billion | Accounting purchase price reported for the completed acquisition | Qualcomm’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended March 29, 2026 |
Enterprise value in the announcement is the transaction value Qualcomm presented when it proposed the deal; the later purchase-price figure is the amount Qualcomm reported in its acquisition accounting. The figures should not be treated as interchangeable.
When the acquisition closed
Qualcomm’s Form 10-Q identifies December 18, 2025, as the closing date. The acquisition is therefore complete, rather than a pending proposal. The company’s SEC filings also describe how it accounted for the purchase.

- Hexa-core (6 Core) processor core helps processor process data in a dependable and timely manner with maximum productivity
- 6 MB L2 plus 32 MB L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
What early results show—and what they do not
For the nine months ended June 28, 2026, Qualcomm reported a $182 million increase in Data Center segment equipment and services revenues compared with the prior-year period, primarily driven by the Alphawave acquisition. That is an increase in segment revenue, not a disclosure of Alphawave’s standalone revenue or the amount of revenue attributable solely to the acquired business. Qualcomm’s Form 10-Q for the period provides the reported comparison.

It attributed goodwill primarily to the assembled workforce and anticipated revenue synergies, including potential growth from new product sales. Those are management’s accounting and expectations disclosures; they do not establish that expected synergies have been realized.

What remains unproven
Qualcomm has described the strategic fit and reported an early Data Center segment increase, but the cited filings do not establish Alphawave’s standalone revenue contribution, customer wins attributable to the acquisition, or a detailed post-close product roadmap. The $182 million segment increase is evidence of reported growth with the acquisition identified as its primary driver, not proof of a specific product outcome or future performance.
