Qantas A380 First Class from Sydney to Dallas can make a long daytime flight feel unusually well-paced: the Sydney First Lounge, onboard dining, a long sleep opportunity and the A380’s lounge all fit into the trip described by reviewer Nick Reyes. His October 2026 verdict is positive on service, food and the large seat, with one clear reservation: the seat is open to the cabin rather than an enclosed suite. Whether it is worth booking depends on your dates, award cost, lounge eligibility and the aircraft assigned to your flight.
What the Sydney–Dallas review says
In his October 2, 2026 trip report, Nick Reyes describes a scheduled departure around noon from Sydney and arrival in Dallas around 12:30 p.m., roughly 15.5 hours later. That timing let him have breakfast in the Sydney First Lounge, eat lunch onboard, sleep for about nine hours and spend time in the A380’s onboard lounge. It is one traveler’s account of that itinerary, not a guarantee that every schedule or flight will offer the same experience.
Reyes’s assessment is favorable: he praises the service, food and wine, amenities, and the size of the seat. He also describes proactive attention from crew, including a First attendant who offered him a drink in the onboard lounge and alerted the Business cabin crew in case he needed assistance. These are his impressions of one trip, not a promise of identical service on every flight.

Qantas lists 14 First seats at the front of the A380’s lower deck in a 1-1-1 arrangement. Published seat specifications include a fully flat bed, 79-inch pitch, 22-inch width, contoured cushioning, lumbar support and in-seat massage. Each seat also has an electronic window shade, USB and AC power, an 18-inch HD screen and storage for shoes, a laptop and personal items. Qantas’s A380 aircraft page describes the layout and features; check the seat map and aircraft on your own itinerary because assignments and layouts can change.

The A380 is listed with 485 seats across four cabins: 14 First, 70 Business, 60 Premium Economy and 341 Economy. Those fleet figures describe the published configuration, not a guarantee that a particular aircraft will operate a particular route.
Seat size is a strength; privacy is the trade-off
Reyes’s main criticism is privacy. The seats are spacious, but they are not enclosed suites: he reports that someone leaning forward in a center seat can see into a seat across the aisle, and people walking through the aisle can see into nearby seating areas. The open 1-1-1 layout makes the cabin feel less secluded than a fully enclosed suite. If privacy matters more to you than space and a large bed, weigh that trade-off carefully.

What the Sydney First Lounge and onboard service add
Qantas describes First lounge access in Sydney and Melbourne, dining, in-lounge sommeliers and the LaGaia spa on its First product page. The page also describes a private suite onboard, the option to dine with a companion, lie-flat sleep and priority boarding. In his Sydney visit, Reyes reports a restaurant-style breakfast, workspace use and a complimentary 20-minute hot-stone massage. Those details reflect his visit and depend on eligibility and availability; they should not be treated as guaranteed services.

Is the award redemption worth it?
Reyes says he booked his First Class trip for 110,000 American Airlines miles and compared that with 80,000 miles for Business Class when available. He felt First justified the premium for his trip. Eric Gai separately reports booking through American Airlines AAdvantage for 110,000 miles plus US$157.93 in taxes and fees, with domestic connecting flights included. Both are individual redemption examples, not current award quotes or evidence that seats are available at those rates now.
Before using points, compare the current mileage price, taxes and fees, cash fare and award availability for your dates. Consider what the extra miles buy you in your case: more space and First Class service, but not an enclosed suite. There is no current fare survey or systematic comparison with other airlines in these trip reports.

Check the aircraft and schedule before booking
Eric Gai’s separate report says A380 flights on the Sydney–Dallas route returned in August 2025 after pandemic-era suspensions and downgrades. That is historical route context, not proof that a future flight will use an A380. Verify the aircraft and seat map against your actual itinerary, and recheck if the assignment matters to your decision.
The daytime timing is central to Reyes’s positive assessment: it created room for a lounge visit, a meal, substantial sleep and time in the onboard lounge before the Dallas arrival. If your flight’s departure or arrival time differs, your opportunity to use those features may differ too. Weigh the schedule alongside aircraft confidence, lounge eligibility, privacy and total cost rather than judging the cabin alone.
