Punjab, Pakistan’s May 2025 announcement made Hotel Eye registration mandatory for private guest houses, with a reported deadline of June 15, 2025. That date has passed, and the available reports do not confirm a later deadline or the portal’s current procedure. The requirement concerns reporting guest information, including stays booked through online accommodation platforms; it is separate from hotel use of the system, which Punjab’s technology board says had already been mandatory since 2016.
What the May 2025 Hotel Eye announcement covered
An Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) report published May 21, 2025, said the Punjab government required private guest houses to register on Hotel Eye. It described the obligation as covering information about local and foreign guests, including guests who booked through local or international online accommodation platforms. The report named the portal as hoteleye.punjab.gov.pk. APP’s announcement report is the source for this scope.
The headline’s reference to “all hotels & guest houses” can obscure a distinction: the 2025 report focused on private guest houses. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) says hotel use of Hotel Eye had been made mandatory in October 2016. Separately, a Punjab Police order dated December 21, 2021, directed use across hotels, inns, residences and private rest houses. Those earlier notices show the system’s broader history, but the sources do not establish one current order with identical procedures for every type of accommodation.
What Hotel Eye records and why authorities use it
PITB describes Hotel Eye as a web application for lodging businesses to record guest check-ins and check-outs, including CNIC and personal details. PITB says the system is integrated with NADRA, PSRMS and CRO; a criminal-record match can generate a notification to police for appropriate action. These are descriptions of the system’s stated function, not independent verification of its accuracy or effectiveness. The source does not specify data-retention periods or current access controls. Punjab Police’s 2021 order framed the system as a way to help locate proclaimed offenders and other wanted criminals. It directed district and regional police leadership to require lodging businesses to enter guest data and warned that failure to do so could lead to legal action. The police order reflects that enforcement framing at the time.
The reported deadline and stated consequence
APP reported June 15, 2025, as the date by which guest-house owners were to register and submit guest information. It said noncompliant guest houses could face legal action under the Punjab Information of Temporary Residence Act 2015. Because that date has passed, it should be treated as a historical deadline, not as a current one. The available sources do not establish whether it was extended, what enforcement currently looks like, or whether portal instructions have changed. For a present-day compliance decision, operators should confirm the applicable instructions with the relevant Punjab authorities rather than assume the 2025 process remains unchanged.

Punjab, Pakistan—not Punjab, India
This Hotel Eye requirement concerns Punjab, Pakistan. Punjab, India has its own hotel and tourist-accommodation registration and licensing processes, administered through its tourism authorities; those processes are not the basis for the Hotel Eye guest-data requirement. The Indian state’s separate services are described by the Government of Punjab, India’s Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and its Department of Tourist Services.
