Punjab Police has launched a Lahore pilot that designates female officers as first responders to reports of sexual violence, other crimes against women and children, and emergency complaints. Relevant calls to Police Helpline 15 are to be routed to the specialized unit. Lahore Police is assigned 22 mobile vehicles for the pilot, according to officials cited in the 2 October 2026 launch report.
What is the Women Police First Response Unit?
Approved by the Punjab Inspector General, the pilot is a mobile police response service for Lahore. Its intended role is to send female officers to the scene when crimes against women and children or related emergencies are reported, so they can address women-related issues and provide police assistance. The launch report describes the goal as a prompt and sensitive response; it does not specify a pilot duration, staffing headcount, budget, exact Lahore coverage zones, or evaluation measures. Punjab Police launch report, 2 October 2026
How to report a crime against a woman or child in Lahore
- For an incident requiring police response, call Helpline 15. The launch report says relevant calls about crimes against women and children are to be routed to the specialized unit. It does not publish a separate number or explain how dispatch will determine which calls qualify. Punjab Police launch report
- For digital reporting or support, use the Virtual Women Police Station. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority lists Helpline 15, the Women Safety App, and online chat as intake channels. The service describes itself as available 24/7, staffed by women officers, and confidential. Punjab Safe Cities Authority: Virtual Women Police Station
The available launch information does not describe an in-person intake point for the new mobile pilot. For an immediate emergency, use the established police helpline rather than assuming the pilot has a separate contact route.

That is the stated intention for relevant calls: Helpline 15 reports about these incidents are to be routed to the unit, whose teams will be staffed by female officers and personnel. The launch report does not give dispatch criteria, response-time targets, or a guarantee that a female officer will attend every call. Punjab Police launch report

How the pilot differs from existing police services
| Service | How people reach it | Primary role | Coverage and published details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women Police First Response Unit pilot | Relevant calls through Police Helpline 15 | Mobile, on-scene response by female officers for sexual violence, other crimes against women and children, and emergency complaints | Lahore pilot; 22 mobile vehicles assigned. Staffing, subzones, duration, budget, and performance measures are not stated in the launch report. Punjab Police launch report |
| Virtual Women Police Station | Helpline 15, Women Safety App, or online chat | Digital complaint intake and case handling, with routing to first responders, gender-based-violence cells, or the concerned police station; the service can support FIR registration, investigation, victim support, witness protection, evidence support, and prosecution | Punjab Safe Cities Authority describes the service as 24/7, staffed by women officers, and confidential. Punjab Safe Cities Authority service page |
| Lahore Police Response Unit | Police response service; the cited description does not specify an intake channel | First-responder force focused on street-crime control and community policing | Existing Lahore Police unit, separate from the women-focused pilot. Lahore Police: Police Response Unit |
The mobile pilot and Virtual Women Police Station are complementary, not the same service: one is intended to dispatch officers to a scene in Lahore, while the other provides digital reporting and case support. The Virtual Women Police Station’s stated channels, handling, and case stages are described by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority; the launch report does not say that every digital case will be handled by the new mobile unit.

How this fits Punjab’s wider first-response system
The new pilot joins a broader first-responder effort. Punjab Police said on 10 March 2026 that it had supplied crime-scene protection kits to vehicles at 747 police stations and prepared 500 master trainers for first-responder training. Those figures describe province-wide work, not the staffing or equipment of the Lahore women’s pilot. Punjab Police press release, 10 March 2026
