Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi has directed agencies to complete pending pothole repairs in Hinjewadi and Chakan within seven days of an October 2 review, calling for durable work rather than temporary patching. He also warned that if an unrepaired pothole causes a fatal accident, police should register a case against the concerned executive engineer and contractor. The warning is conditional: the report does not say that an FIR has been filed or that anyone has been found liable.
What Dudi directed on pothole repairs
According to Hindustan Times, Dudi issued the directions during a road and traffic review on Friday, October 2, 2026. The remaining pothole repairs in Hinjewadi and Chakan are to be completed within seven days. Hinjewadi had already missed a September 30 deadline to make its roads pothole-free.
Dudi called for durable repairs, not temporary filling, and said agencies would be held accountable for further delay. The report states the deadline and directions; it does not confirm whether the work was subsequently completed.
What the FIR warning means—and what it does not
Dudi said police should register a case against the concerned executive engineer and contractor if an unrepaired pothole causes a fatal accident. This is a reported conditional warning, not confirmation that police have opened a case, or that a court or other authority has determined responsibility.

The report attributes this statement to Dudi: “If a person loses their life in an accident caused by a pothole, a case should be registered directly against the concerned executive engineer and contractor. Road safety cannot be compromised because of negligence or delays in completing repair work.”
Why drainage is part of the repair plan
For Chakan, Dudi directed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to survey the drainage network jointly. He identified waterlogging as a major contributor to continued road deterioration and said filling potholes alone would not address the problem.

He called for permanent stormwater and drainage planning. The report also says officials were directed to act against unauthorized structures built over drains. Where structures were built with permission, officials were asked to develop technically feasible plans to divert drains through the properties. Dudi also called for continued anti-encroachment drives and steps to prevent removed encroachments from returning.

The review covered more than potholes. Dudi directed officials to account for present traffic volumes, travel patterns and projected growth when designing roads and deciding on medians, U-turns and highway junctions. He called for traffic-data analysis and simulation to be included in road planning.

The district administration also directed the implementation of an intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) in Chakan and Hinjewadi. For passenger pickups and drop-offs, officials were told to stop unauthorized halts by private travel buses, state transport buses and other vehicles on highways and service roads. Boarding and deboarding should take place at designated bus stands or depots. Officials were asked to identify authorized service-road stops where needed and move PMPML highway stops to service roads where feasible.
