Abstract cited stagnant growth, thin liquidity, a restricted decentralized-finance ecosystem, and limited institutional adoption. The project said the crypto industry had changed since Abstract was conceived and that “operating a chain focused exclusively on consumer crypto has ultimately proven to be unsustainable as a standalone model,” according to The Block.

Igloo CEO Luca Netz said the company had funded the network for 18 months and described its losses as “tens of millions of dollars.” That is an imprecise description, not an audited total: The Block’s report provides no exact figure or financial statement. The stated reasons are the company’s explanation; the report does not establish that any one factor independently caused the shutdown.
What the reported figures say about Abstract’s run
The Block reported that Abstract had more than 144 apps deployed and more than 400,000 users onboarded. Those are reported adoption figures, not independently audited counts in the material available here. The project’s activity did not, by itself, resolve the liquidity, ecosystem, and adoption concerns cited in its wind-down rationale.

Why Igloo says it will not launch an Abstract token
Netz said Igloo considered, but rejected, launching a token or pursuing an initial coin offering (ICO). He said, “A token only works if there is something driving demand to it, and launching a token that we don’t have conviction in would have been a disservice to our community.” Instead, he said Igloo would redirect resources to Pudgy Penguins and its PENGU token. These are the CEO’s stated plans, as reported by The Block.
