A PS5 bought through Swiggy Instamart is not automatically covered—or automatically excluded—from Sony India warranty service just because of the app used. The key questions are who is named as the seller on the invoice and whether Sony validates the specific console and purchase documents. A buyer’s reported warranty refusal after an Instamart order has raised those questions, but it does not establish a platform-wide rule.
What happened in the reported Instamart case?
TalkEsport reported on October 2, 2026 that a buyer said they purchased a sealed PS5 Slim 1TB through Instamart on September 27 and Sony refused warranty registration because the invoice seller was not an authorised Sony India dealer. The report names PYD Retail Pvt Ltd (Avantika) as the invoice seller, attributing that detail to PlayStationInfo. Those are reported case details, not an official Sony finding independently published about the order. TalkEsport’s report covers the buyer’s account.
Digit also reported the buyer’s account, including a claim that Sony requested the invoice, console serial number and warranty card, and that the buyer approached the National Consumer Helpline. That report does not establish a decision on the complaint or its outcome. Digit’s coverage describes the account.

Does Sony give a warranty on a PS5 bought from Swiggy Instamart?
The platform name alone does not answer that. Sony India’s published warranty terms say coverage is for the first end user who purchases from a Sony Authorised Dealer, and require the warranty card and original purchase invoice when seeking service. PlayStation’s India buying guide recommends buying new consoles from authorised retailers to help ensure authenticity, return policy and warranty coverage. Neither source says every product sold through a marketplace or quick-commerce app is automatically excluded. Check the company actually named as seller on your invoice, then ask Sony to confirm the seller’s status and the eligibility of your specific unit.

Sony’s Warranty & Service Charges Information sets out its terms. PlayStation’s India buying guide recommends authorised retailers. Sony also says its warranty does not affect statutory rights under Indian law or a consumer’s rights against the dealer arising from the sale; that is distinct from whether Sony accepts a manufacturer-warranty claim.
What to check before you buy or accept delivery
Before ordering
- Find out which company will issue the invoice. A listing on an app does not, by itself, identify the seller or establish its Sony authorisation.
- Ask the seller and Sony support to confirm in writing that the invoice seller is authorised and that the specific PS5 model or SKU is eligible for Sony India warranty service.
- Prefer an authorised retailer, consistent with PlayStation’s India buying guidance. Review the seller or platform’s return and replacement terms separately; those terms are not the same as Sony warranty eligibility.
At delivery
- Save the order listing, seller details, invoice, warranty card and any written assurances.
- Check that the model and serial information on the console correspond to the details on the documents. Sony’s terms call for the original invoice and warranty card, while PlayStation’s guarantee refers to validating warranty status and providing acceptable proof of purchase.
- Contact Sony support or an authorised service centre promptly to verify coverage for that unit. Sony India links to support and service-centre information on its Repair & Warranty page.
If Sony refuses warranty service
- Ask Sony for the reason for refusal and the warranty term it is relying on, in writing. Keep the response with the invoice, warranty card and console serial number.
- Contact the invoice seller and the platform promptly, especially if a return or replacement period may still be open. Keep the order record and all replies; available remedies and deadlines depend on the applicable seller and platform terms.
- If you believe your consumer rights have been affected, consider the appropriate consumer-protection route. Sony’s terms state that its manufacturer warranty does not affect statutory rights under Indian law or rights against the dealer arising from the sale. That statement does not determine the outcome of an individual dispute.
How to verify this specific console’s eligibility
Use the official routes on Sony India’s Repair & Warranty page to contact support or locate a service centre. Provide the invoice, model and serial details, and warranty card, and ask Sony to confirm whether the named seller and the particular unit qualify for warranty service. Keep a written record of the answer. PlayStation’s India guarantee says Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe may refuse repair or replacement if it cannot validate warranty status and acceptable proof of purchase is not provided; the guarantee also says statutory consumer rights are unaffected. The report about the Instamart order is an account attributed to the buyer, not proof that all Instamart PS5 listings have the same seller or warranty status. Sony’s reviewed public materials do not include a statement about that individual order. Seller authorisation, return terms and warranty conditions can change, so confirm them against the current invoice and Sony’s current guidance.
