Relapse’s project repository says the PS5 jailbreak supports system software from 7.00 through 13.60—not 14.00 or 14.10. Sony lists both newer versions on its update page, so owners face a choice: keep compatible firmware for a chance to use the exploit, or update when a game or update requires it. Relapse can enable homebrew, but a reported Switch-emulator demonstration is an early, separate use case—not a promise that Switch games run reliably.
Which PS5 firmware does Relapse support?
The Relapse repository states: “Supported firmware: 7.00 through 13.60.” That is the project’s own compatibility claim, not an independent certification. Sony’s US PS5 system software page lists versions 26.05-13.60.00, 26.06-14.00.00 and 26.06-14.10.00. The repository’s stated ceiling therefore excludes 14.00 and 14.10.
Sony’s update page documents official software versions; it does not establish whether third-party exploits work. Likewise, a project support range can change, so check the repository’s current README against the console’s installed version before drawing a conclusion.
What Relapse does—and what can go wrong?
The project describes a browser-based WebKit stage followed by a kernel stage that establishes kernel read/write access. An ELF loader lets users load payloads. This is an exploit chain, not a permanent change to the console’s official software or a guarantee that every payload will work.

The README warns that the browser stage may stall and the kernel exploit may hang or panic the console. That caveat matters: a supported firmware version does not mean every attempt will succeed or that the setup will be trouble-free.
What can a jailbroken PS5 run?
Homebrew and emulators
Ars Technica describes emulators and unofficial modifications for legacy PS4 games among possible uses of a jailbroken PS5. These are examples of homebrew possibilities, not assurances that a particular application works on every supported firmware or with every setup.

Switch emulation is a separate early demonstration
Tom’s Hardware reported an early Switch-emulator demonstration running on a jailbroken PS5. That report does not make Switch emulation a built-in Relapse feature, nor does it establish broad game compatibility, stable performance or reliable operation. Treat it as an early use case rather than a reason to assume a PS5 can replace a Switch.

It depends on the specific game, its release and updates, and potentially whether you have a disc or digital copy. Tom’s Hardware reported player claims that the disc version of Marvel’s Wolverine and its update had different firmware requirements from the digital version or update. Those are user reports, not a confirmed universal requirement for every copy or region.

Before updating or deciding to stay on older software, check the requirement for the exact game edition and update you intend to use. A game or patch that requires newer system software can conflict with retaining a console version inside Relapse’s stated support range.

There is no blanket answer. The choice turns on your console’s current version, the requirements of the specific games and updates you want, and whether homebrew is worth the exploit’s limitations and instability.

In short, firmware 13.60 is the current upper limit claimed by Relapse’s repository, while Sony lists later releases. Homebrew is possible on a jailbroken PS5, but the reported Switch-emulation example remains early and should not be read as a dependable feature.
