Sony has certified two new gaming-device model numbers, CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, prompting speculation that an upgraded PlayStation Portal may be in the works. The certificates confirm Sony registrations and basic wireless details, but they do not identify either device as a Portal or confirm an OLED screen, 120 Hz display, price, or release date.
What the new Sony certifications actually show
The Wi-Fi Alliance lists both CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 as Sony Interactive Entertainment products named “Computer Entertainment System.” Each is classified under Gaming, Media & Music in the Gaming Console/Peripherals sub-category, and both certificates are dated September 21, 2026.

The records list Android 15 and certified Wi-Fi operation in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. They do not list 6 GHz support. The certificates also do not provide a consumer product name, screen type, refresh rate, battery information, price, or launch date. See the [CFI-Y2000 Wi-Fi Alliance certificate] and [CFI-Y2105 Wi-Fi Alliance certificate].
Does this mean an enhanced PS Portal is coming?
Not yet. The registrations are consistent with the idea that Sony is preparing new gaming hardware: they are Sony products in a gaming peripherals category, and their model numbers begin with CFI-Y. But neither certificate says “PlayStation Portal,” and the available records do not establish that the two numbers are separate consumer products. They could represent variants, but the certificates do not explain the relationship.
#1 Best Overall
- Put Your PS5 in the Palm of Your Hand - PlayStation Portal Remote Player gives you access to the games on your PS5 over your home Wi-Fi*, letting you jump right into gaming without needing to play on a TV.
- Play Your Game Collection - PlayStation Portal Remote Player can play compatible games you have installed on your PS5 console, including your favorite games for PS5 and PS4.**
- Store and Protect – Sturdy outer shell, molded interior and dual zipper pulls provides protection for the PlayStation Portal remote player
- Charging Cable Pass-through – Allows a charging cable to be plugged into the PS Portal while stored inside the case
- Charge and Display – Charge the PlayStation Portal remote player and display it next to your PlayStation5 console
As a result, calling either model an OLED Portal, Portal Pro, or Portal successor goes beyond what the evidence shows. The registrations make the theory plausible enough to discuss, not confirmed enough to treat as a product announcement.
Where the OLED and 120 Hz rumor came from
The OLED and 120 Hz possibility was reported before these certifications surfaced. In January 2026, Tom’s Guide reported a Portal Pro rumor attributed to leaker Zuby_Tech. The report noted that Sony had not announced a refresh and that no price or timeline was known.
The later Wi-Fi Alliance records do not confirm that earlier claim or link the model numbers to it. There is still no cited confirmation of a new Portal’s display technology, refresh rate, battery, price, or launch timing.

How the certified devices compare with today’s Portal
Sony’s current PlayStation Portal product page specifies an 8-inch LCD with a 1080p screen capable of up to 60 frames per second. It describes Portal as a device for streaming games over Wi-Fi; it does not connect the current product to the newly registered model numbers.
| Detail | Current PlayStation Portal | CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105 |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity | PlayStation Portal Remote Player (Sony product page) | “Computer Entertainment System”; no Portal name (Wi-Fi Alliance certificates) |
| Screen | 8-inch LCD, 1080p, up to 60 fps (Sony product page) | Not stated (Wi-Fi Alliance certificates) |
| Operating system | Not stated on the cited product page | Android 15 (Wi-Fi Alliance certificates) |
| Wi-Fi bands | Not stated on the cited product page | 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz; no 6 GHz listed (Wi-Fi Alliance certificates) |
| Price and release date | Not compared here | Not stated (Wi-Fi Alliance certificates) |
The current Portal is therefore a useful confirmed baseline, not proof of what Sony has registered. The certifications do not establish whether any future device would replace or sit alongside it.
Sony has improved the current Portal through software
A hardware refresh is not the only way the Portal experience can change. In March 2026, Sony added a selectable 1080p High Quality mode for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming. Sony says the mode uses a higher bitrate than the default 1080p Standard mode; the update also included interface and usability changes. That is a confirmed software improvement to the existing product, not evidence of a new screen or hardware revision.

Sony’s update announcement also reported that Portal cloud-streaming monthly users grew 162% year over year in January, comparing December 2025 with January 2026, and that more than 50% of Portal users were PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers over that period. These are Sony-reported figures, not independent market measurements. The post, authored by Takuro Fushimi, Senior Manager, Product Management, states: “Players can now select a 1080p High Quality mode during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming.” Read Sony’s March 2026 Portal update announcement.

What you can do with the current Portal
Sony describes two ways to play: Remote Play from a PS5 and cloud streaming. Remote Play does not require PlayStation Plus. Sony’s cloud-streaming announcement specifies a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription for that feature. These distinctions matter if you are weighing the current model while the certification theory remains unconfirmed.
- Remote Play: Stream games from your PS5 over Wi-Fi. Sony says this feature does not require PlayStation Plus.
- Cloud streaming: Stream supported games without relying on Remote Play from your PS5; Sony specifies PlayStation Plus Premium for this feature. See Sony’s cloud-streaming announcement.
Portal streams gameplay rather than replacing the PS5 as the console running a Remote Play session. Sony’s product information describes the Portal experience and streaming features, but does not establish that streamed play will match every local-TV setup in all conditions.
What to watch for in a real announcement
If Sony confirms one or more new devices, the useful comparison points will be the screen technology and refresh rate, supported wireless bands, battery and ergonomics, compatibility with current Remote Play and cloud features, price, and whether the existing LCD Portal remains available. Until then, those are open questions—not differences that can be assigned to CFI-Y2000 or CFI-Y2105.
