Sony’s official 2025 Black Friday announcement confirms discounts on PS5 consoles in select regions, but it does not establish that every model’s sale price fell below its price immediately before the April 2026 price increase. The offer was a limited-time promotion announced for November 21, 2025; the later price increase took effect April 2, 2026. A valid “below pre-hike” comparison needs matching prices for the same market, console version and bundle contents.
What Sony confirmed for Black Friday 2025
In an announcement published November 18, 2025, Sony Interactive Entertainment said its Black Friday promotion would begin November 21 and run for a limited time. Sony described savings on PS5 consoles, PS5 Digital Edition consoles and PS5 Pro consoles, but specified that the $100 savings applied in select regions—not every market. The announcement also cautioned that retailer prices and availability could vary.
Sony named two U.S. recommended retail prices for Fortnite Flowering Chaos bundles: $399.99 for the PS5 Digital Edition 825GB bundle and $449.99 for the PS5 1TB bundle. Those are prices for the named bundles, not universal prices for console-only listings or every PS5 configuration. The announcement does not establish that either bundle price was lower than its own immediately pre-hike price.

What changed in April 2026
On March 27, 2026, Sony announced a global increase in recommended retail prices for PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal, effective April 2, 2026. Sony’s announcement did not provide one universal price for every country; for territories beyond the stated markets, it directed customers to local retailers or direct.playstation.com. Sony attributed the decision to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.”

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The timing matters: the documented Black Friday promotion was in 2025, while the price increase took effect in 2026. A sale price from the earlier promotion can only be described as below a pre-hike price if the relevant pre-hike price is established for the same product and territory. The cited Sony announcements do not supply that complete like-for-like price history.
How to check whether a PS5 deal really beat its pre-hike price
Before treating a listing as proof that a Black Friday price undercut the pre-hike level, match these details:
Rank #2
- CPU: x86-64-AMD Ryzen Zen 8 Cores / 16 Threads at 3.5GHz.GPU: AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine.
- 16GB GDDR6/256-bit Memory; 825GB SSD Storage Capacity
- Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T), IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Bluetooth 5.1
- HDR technology, 8K output, 4K TV gaming, Up to 120 fps with 120Hz output, Tempest 3D AudioTech
- What's Included: Sony PlayStation 5 Disc Version; Wireless controller; USB cable, HDMI cable, AC power cord. Nogtox PVT HDMI_cable
- Market and currency: Compare prices in the same country and currency. Sony says its promotion varied by region and retailer.
- Console edition and model: Match disc-drive and digital versions, as well as the specific model and storage capacity.
- What is included: Compare console-only prices with console-only prices, or bundles with the same included game, controller or other contents. A recommended price for a named bundle is not a direct comparison with a bare console.
- Price type: Distinguish Sony’s recommended retail price from the price a retailer actually charged. Sony warned that retailer prices and availability could vary.
- Relevant dates: Compare the Black Friday transaction price with the price for that matching product immediately before the applicable price increase—not with a different model or an older promotional price.
Without those matched figures, the strongest supported conclusion is that Sony announced substantial Black Friday 2025 savings in select regions and later raised recommended prices effective April 2, 2026. The announcements alone do not prove that all PS5 Black Friday prices were below pre-hike levels.
What to know about current Black Friday claims
The 2025 announcement is historical, not evidence of a current offer. It does not establish a 2026 Black Friday promotion or predict its prices. For a live deal, check the retailer listing for the exact market, model, bundle contents, current price and availability; then compare it with a documented pre-increase price for the same configuration.
