Proton VPN is most appealing if privacy-focused service, a no-cost plan, or paid features such as streaming support and P2P servers match your needs. The US checkout reviewed on October 7, 2026, priced VPN Plus at $71.76 before tax for 24 months, then $83.88 before tax for a 12-month renewal. That renewal matters: the advertised $2.99 monthly equivalent applies to the introductory term, not the next year. Proton documents a broad feature set, but speed, streaming performance, leak resistance, and ease of use have not been independently tested here.
What does the Proton VPN deal cost?
Proton VPN Plus checkout terms displayed in US dollars on October 7, 2026, were:
| Term | Amount before tax | Monthly equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $9.99 | $9.99 |
| 12 months | $47.88 total | $3.99 |
| 24 months | $71.76 total | $2.99 |
| Renewal after the 24-month offer | $83.88 for 12 months | $6.99 |
The 24-month checkout described the introductory rate as 70% off the stated $9.99 monthly price. Proton says renewal pricing may change; the checkout also offered a 30-day money-back guarantee. These are US-dollar checkout figures, not a global price promise. Taxes and currency conversion can change what you pay. Check the final checkout for your location and compare the full upfront total with the renewal amount, rather than judging the deal by its monthly equivalent alone. Proton VPN pricing and checkout

Proton says its Free plan has no time, speed, or data limits and uses the same security level and no-logs policy as paid plans. Its main trade-offs are more limited location choice, one device connected at a time, and no guaranteed access to streaming services. Proton VPN plan comparison

Which plan lets me use streaming services with Proton VPN?
Proton’s plan comparison says streaming access is guaranteed only on paid plans. That is a plan-level promise, not proof that every service, title, or regional catalog will work at any given moment. No streaming platform or region was tested for this review, so treat specific availability as unverified and check current plan terms before subscribing. Proton VPN plan comparison
How can I use BitTorrent on Proton VPN?
Proton says P2P-optimized servers are available on paid plans and marked with a two-way-arrow icon in its apps. Its P2P information says that, while connected, peers see the VPN server IP rather than your real IP. Use the service only for lawful activity; a VPN does not make copyright infringement lawful. Does Proton VPN keep logs, and does the free plan compromise privacy?
Proton says it does not log the websites you visit, traffic or communications content, IP addresses, session lengths, or location-based information. It does retain account information; its policy explains the details. Proton also says its apps are open source and independently audited, and identifies Securitum as an independent auditor in its no-logs material. These are company statements and audit claims; this review did not inspect a current audit report or conduct privacy or leak testing. Proton VPN no-logs information
Proton is based in Switzerland and cites Swiss privacy law as part of its approach. Jurisdiction is relevant context, not an absolute guarantee against legal process. Proton says the Free plan has the same security level and no-logs policy as paid plans, so its limits are primarily about features and access rather than a stated privacy downgrade. What this review can—and cannot—verify
This assessment covers Proton’s documented policies, plan terms, and product features; it does not establish real-world performance. There are no independent speed or latency measurements, leak tests, streaming checks, congestion observations, or usability results here. Proton’s “up to 400%” claim should not be read as a speed result you are guaranteed to experience. A meaningful performance comparison would need to report the device and operating system, baseline connection, test locations, protocol, time period, and streaming services and regions tested.
