Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
Project Infinity 0.1 runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. The dependable setup is to install the exact matching client and server builds, use Java 17 or 21, and reserve about 8 GB of RAM or more for the server. A managed host can install the pack from its control panel; self-hosting requires the CurseForge server pack, a Java runtime, heap settings on the launch command, and your own update and backup routine.
Build numbers change frequently. The CurseForge listing summary identified 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 as the latest release on September 16, 2026, while host listings cited 0.0.51.4. Verify the live CurseForge version list immediately before downloading, then use the corresponding server files.

What Project Infinity 0.1 is
Project Infinity 0.1 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. It is distributed as a client pack for players and a separate server pack for hosting. The two sides must be kept on compatible builds: a player running one release can fail to connect to a server running another, especially when the pack is receiving hotfixes.
The pack’s release history is active rather than static. A search summary for the CurseForge listing reported version 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, dated 2026-09-16, with medium confidence because the listing itself was not opened. Host listings separately referenced 0.0.51.4. Treat those figures as a starting point, not a permanent “latest” label.

Why the server file name may look different
The CurseForge server archive found in the listing is named Serverfiles_Project_Infinity_0_1_0.0.45.2. That does not match the newer client-style number shown in the listing summary. Project Infinity therefore appears to use separately numbered client and server packages, or at least archives that were published at different times. Do not infer compatibility from the pack name alone. Compare the release notes or file version on the live page and install the server archive intended for the same build as your clients.
Choose managed hosting or self-hosting
Your first decision is operational, not technical: do you want a host to maintain the machine, or do you want complete control over it?
| Option | Setup effort | Control | Java and updates | Cost and responsibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Managed host | Low. A compatible panel can install the pack with a one-click workflow: select Project Infinity and choose Install. | Moderate. You control the world and server settings exposed by the panel, but not the underlying machine. | The provider usually supplies the runtime and makes pack upgrades easier, although you still need to check build compatibility and backups. | Recurring hosting cost. The provider handles hardware, networking and much of the maintenance. |
| Self-hosted machine or VPS | Higher. You download and extract the server pack, install Java, configure memory and launch Forge. | High. You control files, Java, launch arguments, backups, schedules and operating-system access. | You install and update Java yourself and must apply pack updates safely. | No managed-host fee, but you provide the computer, storage, network access and troubleshooting. |
For a first server, managed hosting avoids the most common setup errors. Self-hosting is appropriate when you already administer a machine and want direct access to logs, files and launch flags. In either case, make a backup before changing the pack version.

Requirements at a glance
| Component | Recommended starting point | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft and loader | Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge | This is the platform identified for Project Infinity 0.1; do not substitute another Minecraft version or loader. |
| Java | Java 17 or Java 21 | A guide from Piggo says Java 8 will not work and favors Java 21 where available for garbage-collection performance. |
| Server RAM | About 8 GB or more | Host figures are provider recommendations, not a formal minimum published by the pack author. |
| Storage and network | Enough free disk space for the extracted pack, world, logs and backups; a stable connection for every player | No authoritative disk or bandwidth number was stated, so leave practical headroom rather than planning to the byte. |
Do not allocate all physical memory to Java. The operating system, file cache and other services need room. Piggo’s guidance is to set the maximum heap to available RAM minus roughly 1–2 GB.
How much RAM Project Infinity needs
Published host guidance varies. One provider lists 5,000 MB, another lists 8 GB, and Piggo’s player-count table starts at 8 GB. The conservative interpretation is to plan for at least 8 GB for a small server and increase it as the player count and world activity grow.
| Concurrent players | Piggo table: stated allocation | Piggo table: stated recommended amount | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 8 GB | 2–4 GB higher | A reasonable starting point for a lightly populated server, provided the machine has additional memory for the operating system. |
| 3–5 | 10 GB | 2–4 GB higher | Watch startup time and tick performance as exploration and automation increase. |
| 6–10 | 12 GB | 2–4 GB higher | Use a machine with enough total RAM to leave the recommended operating-system reserve. |
These are guidance values, not a guarantee that every world needs exactly that amount. A compact world with few loaded chunks can behave differently from a heavily explored or automated one. Start with a sensible allocation, then observe startup behavior and TPS rather than repeatedly adding memory without diagnosing the cause.

Install the client pack and verify the build
Before anyone joins
- Check the live CurseForge release list and note the exact Project Infinity build, including any hotfix suffix.
- Install the client profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 through the launcher or pack manager you use.
- Confirm that every player has the same Project Infinity build. A client on 0.0.51.4 and a server on a hotfix build should be treated as mismatched until the release information says otherwise.
- Do not let players enter the world until the server has completed its first start and you have configured world-generation options.
The available evidence does not verify every mod included in the pack, including whether a particular Create release is present. Avoid adding or removing mods based on assumptions; use the pack’s own manifest and release notes.
Managed-host setup
Panels that support Project Infinity generally follow the same sequence. Labels differ by provider, but the operation described by CreeperHost is representative: select the pack and click Install.
- Open the host’s modpack or installer catalog and search for Project Infinity 0.1.
- Choose the exact release that matches the client build you intend to use. Do not accept an automatically selected “latest” version without checking its number.
- Start the installation and wait for the panel to download and unpack the server files.
- Open the server’s Java or memory settings. Confirm that the panel is using Java 17 or 21 and that the allocated memory is appropriate for your player count.
- Start the server once with no players connected. Allow world generation and inspect the console for a clean completion rather than stopping it during file creation.
- Configure the world seed, world options and starting-island choice before the first player joins.
- Make a full backup from the host panel before applying any future pack update.
Managed installation reduces file-handling work, but it does not remove version risk. A one-click update can still change mods or world behavior, so preserve a restorable backup and record the old build number.

Self-host Project Infinity with the server pack
1. Download the matching server archive
Use the Project Infinity server pack published for the same release as the clients. The archive name found in the listing contains a different number from the newer client summary, which is why matching the release entry matters more than copying a filename from an old guide.
2. Extract to a dedicated server directory
Unpack the archive into a directory used only for this server. Keep the world, configuration, mods, logs and backups together so that a backup captures the complete state. Do not extract a second release over the live directory; use a separate folder when testing an update.
3. Install and verify Java
Install a 64-bit Java 17 or Java 21 runtime, then verify the runtime from the same account that will launch the server:
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
java -version
The output should identify Java 17 or Java 21. Java 8 is specifically reported as incompatible. If the command shows an older runtime, correct the system path or call the intended Java executable explicitly before starting Forge.
4. Set heap size on the launch command
Use the start script supplied with the server pack when one is included. If you launch the Forge jar manually, heap size belongs in the JVM command, not in server.properties. A representative command is:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
java -Xms4G -Xmx10G -jar forge-server.jar nogui
Use the actual Forge jar filename in your extracted pack. The example gives Forge an initial 4 GB heap and a 10 GB maximum, matching Piggo’s example. Set -Xmx no higher than the machine can spare after reserving about 1–2 GB for the operating system and any other services. Set -Xms to a value your machine can commit comfortably; it does not replace the maximum-heap setting.
5. Complete the first start
- Launch the supplied script or Forge command from the server directory.
- Allow the server to generate its files and world. Do not interpret a long first start as an immediate crash.
- If the process appears hung for more than 20 minutes, treat insufficient RAM as the first suspect, as Piggo’s troubleshooting guidance recommends.
- Stop the server cleanly, adjust memory or Java if required, and start it again before inviting players.
World-generation choices that cannot be changed later
Piggo warns that the starting-island setup is fixed when the world is generated. Set the seed and world options before the first player joins; changing them after generation will not retroactively rebuild the existing world.
Quick Recap
- Decide the seed before the first successful world creation.
- Choose the starting-island configuration during world setup.
- Enable cheats at creation if your planned administration requires them; the available guidance recommends doing so at world creation rather than assuming it can be enabled later without consequences.
- Make a backup immediately after a successful first generation, before experimenting with settings or inviting players.
Startup and performance troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Clients cannot connect after an update | Client and server build numbers differ. | Compare the exact release, including hotfix suffixes, and install the matching client or server files. |
| Java error or immediate launch failure | The runtime is Java 8 or another unsupported installation. | Switch to Java 17 or 21 and verify with java -version. |
| First start appears frozen for over 20 minutes | Insufficient heap or a machine under heavy memory pressure. | Check the -Xms/-Xmx values, leave operating-system headroom, and restart with an appropriate allocation. |
| Low tick performance | TPS below 15 is a problem indicator in Piggo’s guidance. | Check memory pressure and loaded-world activity first; then apply the G1GC flags recommended by your pack or host documentation rather than copying unrelated JVM flags. |
| World starts with the wrong island or seed | Options were changed after generation. | Restore the intended pre-generation settings and create a new world, or restore a backup made before the first generation. |
| Update damages or changes the world | The pack receives frequent changes and hotfixes. | Stop the server, restore the pre-update backup, and test the new build in a separate directory before trying again. |
Safe update procedure
- Record the current client and server build numbers.
- Stop the server normally and wait until the process exits.
- Create and verify a complete backup of the world and server directory.
- Download the new client and matching server release from the live pack listing.
- Install the update in a separate test directory whenever possible; never overwrite the only working copy.
- Start the test server with Java 17 or 21 and the intended heap flags.
- Check that the world loads, the starting-island content is intact and players can connect with the matching client.
- Only then schedule the production update. Keep the old directory and backup until the new build has been stable.
Practical launch checklist
- Minecraft version is 1.20.1 and the loader is Forge.
- Client and server releases match exactly, including hotfix labels.
- Java is 17 or 21; Java 8 is not used.
- The server has about 8 GB or more available for a small group, with additional memory reserved for the operating system.
- Heap is configured with
-Xmsand-Xmxon the launch command or supplied start script. - Seed, world options and starting-island settings are chosen before first generation.
- A verified backup exists before every pack update.
- TPS and startup time are monitored after major changes.
