Project Hadar has reached a coherent vision for its world and major creative elements, but CD PROJEKT RED says the game is not yet in formal pre-production. Developers are finishing the world-building and concept work while building small prototypes to test gameplay ideas. That makes Hadar more defined than it was earlier in 2026, but it is still years away from the milestones that would support a release date, platform list or preorder.
What the October 2026 update actually confirms
GamesRadar’s October 15, 2026 report says CD PROJEKT RED has nearly completed the stage of establishing Hadar’s world and key elements. The team now has a coherent vision for what that world should be, and it is testing gameplay through small prototypes.
That progress should not be confused with full production. The same report says Hadar is “not yet in pre-production.” Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski described it as the company’s “biggest undertaking to date,” adding that it has taken several years so far.

In practical terms, CDPR has moved from an open-ended exploration of possibilities toward a more unified creative direction, while still validating how the game will play and how its systems should work.

Why the September and October status statements differ
CD PROJEKT’s September 2, 2026 first-half earnings-call transcript called Hadar “still in the concept phase.” The company said more than 30 people were working on it and that it expected to hire up to 50 developers by the end of 2026. The team was testing different approaches, ideas and gameplay prototypes.
The October wording is a later update, not a contradiction. It indicates that the world-vision portion of concept development is nearly complete, while the project remains outside formal pre-production. Neither statement says that full production has begun.

Hadar is CDPR’s first fully proprietary IP
Unlike The Witcher and Cyberpunk, Hadar is not adapted from existing novels, tabletop material or another outside property. CDPR first unveiled it in 2022 as the studio’s first fully proprietary intellectual property.

That distinction helps explain the long concept period. The team must establish the setting, characters, tone, rules and gameplay identity without an existing canon to guide those decisions. CDPR’s 2025 management report said the company was continuing to develop Hadar internally using its own resources and skills as part of its broader franchise-portfolio strategy.

Rumors, speculative interpretations of job listings and fan-created concepts should therefore be treated as unconfirmed. The company’s statements support conclusions about development stage and staffing, not the game’s content or commercial timetable.
When could Project Hadar release?
There is no announced release date or launch window. Because the project is still before pre-production, a reliable estimate cannot be calculated from the current information. Pre-production normally precedes the sustained production work needed to lock a game’s core systems, content pipeline and platform plans; Hadar has not publicly reached that milestone.
CDPR’s next meaningful update would need to identify a move into pre-production, describe the playable scope or name target platforms before a release forecast becomes more credible.

Can you buy anything related to Hadar?
No legitimate Hadar-specific product, game edition or preorder has been announced in the available company and media updates. CDPR’s 2025 report mentions continuing work on tie-in products at a category level, but it does not identify a Hadar merchandise line or currently available item. Witcher or Cyberpunk products are not Hadar merchandise.
