Our verdict on York Notes
York Notes is a study and revision resource for Primary KS2, GCSE, A Level and undergraduate learners studying English Language, English Literature and set texts. Its catalogue combines online study guides, printed guides, workbooks and mobile apps. Students can use literary analysis covering plot, characters, themes, contexts and language, while teachers can draw on practice materials and exam-preparation resources. The product is most suited to learners revising prescribed texts rather than those seeking broad, general-purpose study support.
Pricing is structured as one-time purchases rather than subscriptions, with options varying by title and school level. The Primary KS2 title costs £4.99 and includes Primary KS2 English materials. The Online Edition costs £7.99 and includes an online study guide and free app. The Printed Guide also costs £7.99 and provides a printed study guide. The £9.99 Bundle combines the printed guide, online edition and app access. Digital York Notes Plus editions add interactive quizzes, checkpoint questions, videos or podcasts, sample answers, essay planning, revision cards and note-taking tools, depending on the title.
Its strongest fit is the combination of text-specific interpretation and active revision. Key-quotation testing, quizzes, checkpoint questions and revision cards support recall, while sample answers and essay-planning tools connect analysis with written responses. User notes and online synchronization extend the study experience across web, iOS and Android. The narrow set-text focus is also the main boundary: learners who need wider subject coverage or resources outside literature and English examinations should choose a broader study platform. York Notes is a practical choice for students and teachers working toward defined texts and exam requirements, particularly when print and digital formats are useful together.
