Our verdict on Yesim
Yesim sells prepaid, data-only eSIM plans for travelers in Japan. The 1 GB, 30-day plan is a starter option for a longer trip, while fixed and unlimited data choices let travelers select a different allowance or duration. Plans are intended for eSIM-compatible phones and tablets, and the service is available through web, iOS and Android. Travelers who need mobile data and hotspot access may find it a practical fit; it is not a replacement for a voice plan.
Activation timing is useful for planning: validity begins when the eSIM first connects to a compatible network, and purchase activation can be deferred for up to 90 days. Installation is through a QR code or the app. Yesim also provides data-use and remaining-validity tracking, and hotspot and tethering are supported. The service can use 3G, 4G, LTE or 5G depending on the provider and location, so the available connection type may vary during a trip.
Yesim's Japan offer is focused on connectivity rather than a broader travel bundle: its plans are data-only, though travelers can keep using a primary SIM for messaging apps. The service lists 24/7 support, email and documentation, and a 30-day refund period. Travelers who want a Japan eSIM with a small 30-day bundle, hotspot use and the choice of fixed or unlimited data should consider it. Those who need voice service included should look at alternatives that provide it.
