yaxim review
A free Android client for individual and group chat through an XMPP account.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
For Android users who want to chat through an XMPP (Jabber) service, yaxim is a free client for individual messages and group conversations. It connects to an account the user configures or creates, so communication runs through an XMPP service rather than one centralized messaging network. The app also handles contact lists, text, images and files. Its focus is basic mobile messaging for solo users and small teams, not a cross-platform chat setup or a client with documented end-to-end encryption.
Its XMPP approach is the main ecosystem consideration: users need an account with an XMPP service, and yaxim provides one-account setup and configuration. Once connected, it is designed to maintain that connection through phone startup and changes between mobile and Wi-Fi networks. Android Auto and Wear notifications and replies extend message access to those devices. The client is listed for Android devices starting with Android 4.0, making Android the relevant platform choice.
The app is free, and its published features cover core messaging rather than a broader collaboration suite. Group chat uses XMPP multi-user chat, with contact management and file sharing alongside direct messages. The listed category details do not support end-to-end encryption, so people who require that protection should choose another option. Community support is the stated support channel. Choose yaxim if you want a free Android client for an existing or newly configured XMPP account; look elsewhere if you need other platforms or end-to-end encrypted chat.
