Our verdict on XRMoCap

XRMoCap is an open-source, PyTorch-based motion-capture codebase from OpenXRLab, aimed at researchers and developers building or evaluating multi-camera capture methods. It handles single-person and multi-person capture from calibrated cameras and is organized as a research and development toolkit for reproducing methods, working with benchmarks, and developing models. The project is self-hosted and Linux is the only operating system explicitly listed in its installation requirements, making it a closer fit for technical teams than for users seeking a ready-to-run hosted capture service.

Its scope extends beyond pose reconstruction. XRMoCap includes camera estimation, triangulation, and bundle adjustment, along with multi-view person matching and tracking. Its methods work with both 3D keypoints and parametric human models; the toolkit can convert and optimize between keypoints and SMPL-family model data. Model training, inference, and evaluation tools sit alongside dataset preparation and visualization features. That breadth makes the project useful for research pipelines where capture, fitting, and evaluation need to be connected, rather than for workflows that only need a simple tracking interface.

XRMoCap is free and open source, with documentation and community support. Getting started requires a Python environment and supporting dependencies; the documentation also describes Docker-based setup. Buyers should consider it when they have the technical capacity to manage a Linux research codebase and want control over multi-view model workflows. It is less suitable for teams seeking a commercial hosted product, a turnkey installation, or confirmed real-time output and integrations. For those needs, a product with an explicitly documented service and workflow fit would be a better direction.
