Xero for Restaurants is cloud accounting software for restaurant operators and small businesses that need invoicing, bill payment, bank reconciliation, purchase orders, inventory tracking and financial reporting. It also supports mobile accounting access and connections to restaurant POS and back-of-house tools. Small restaurants looking for established accounting functions and a path to add apps may find a fit; operators seeking restaurant-specific food-cost and multi-location depth should weigh that narrower focus carefully.

The published monthly US plans start with Early at $25, which includes invoicing and quotes, bank reconciliation, smart document capture, real-time reports and a 30-day cash-flow forecast. Growing costs $55 per month and adds automated bill entry, automatic bank transaction reconciliation, performance dashboards, budgeting tools and a 60-day forecast. Established is $90 per month, with advanced analytics, KPI and ratio analysis, multiple currencies, project time and cost tracking, and a 180-day forecast. A 30-day trial is available. The tier progression centers on accounting automation, forecasting and analysis rather than restaurant-specific operating controls.

Restaurant fit depends partly on connected apps: Xero integrates with POS systems, inventory and food-cost apps, payroll and payment tools, as well as bank feeds and other business apps. That can link accounting with restaurant operations, while leaving food-cost workflows dependent on the connected tools. Choose Xero if the priority is accounting basics, bill workflows, reporting and app connectivity at an accessible starting price. Consider a restaurant-focused alternative if built-in food-cost management or deeper multi-location controls are central requirements; those are not the strengths established by its stated feature set.

Xero for Restaurants pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Early includes bank reconciliation and real-time reports for $25 per month.
    • Growing adds automated bill entry, dashboards and budgeting tools.
    • Connects with restaurant POS, inventory, payroll and payment apps.
  • Where it doesn't
    • Restaurant workflows depend on connected apps rather than a specialized suite.
    • Food-cost management comes through integrations, not a stated native feature.
    • Early has a 30-day cash-flow forecast; longer forecasts require higher tiers.
