Xero Accounting API review
A focused API for production integrations built around Xero accounting data.

Xero Accounting API connects applications to Xero organisations and exposes accounting data for small businesses, accountants, bookkeepers and connected-app ecosystems. Developers can retrieve, create, update, delete and void invoices and purchase bills, access credit notes, reports and journal-related data, and receive invoice event notifications through webhooks. OAuth 2.0 authorization supports authorization-code and PKCE flows, while tenant connection management helps applications work with connected Xero organisations.
Pricing is structured around Xero Developer app tiers rather than an end-user accounting subscription. Starter has no monthly tier fee, allows up to 5 connections, includes unlimited monthly API ingress and provides 1,000 API calls per day per organisation. Core costs AUD 35 per month and raises the limit to 50 connections, with 10 GB of monthly API egress and 5,000 daily API calls. Plus costs AUD 245 per month for up to 1,000 connections and 50 GB of egress. Advanced costs AUD 1,445 per month for up to 10,000 connections and 250 GB of egress; its Journals endpoint is available subject to requirements. Enterprise offers unlimited connections, application-based egress volume and custom pricing.
The platform fit is clear: this is a focused choice for applications that need Xero-specific production integrations, not a general accounting data layer spanning multiple vendors. Development support includes a demo company, API Explorer, SDKs, OpenAPI specifications and developer tooling. Manual-journal data remains available across tiers, while the Journals endpoint has additional tier and approval conditions. Choose Xero Accounting API when your application’s accounting workflow is centered on Xero and its supported transactions, reports and events. Choose an alternative when multi-platform accounting coverage is a core requirement.
