WIDI Recognition System review
A focused desktop transcriber with polyphonic, drum, batch, and real-time workflows.

WIDI Recognition System is desktop software for converting recorded audio into MIDI scores and supporting real-time transcription. It is aimed at amateur and professional musicians, teachers, and music analysts who need to turn audio into editable MIDI or inspect musical material in notation. Windows and macOS versions accept Wave, MP3, CD Audio, WMA, and AIFF files, with automated recognition for both melodic and polyphonic audio.
Its strongest fit is a workflow built around transcription depth rather than broad platform integration. The software supports drum-track detection, batch conversion of multiple files, tonality and tuning analysis, and a pitch-selective equalizer with scale masking. Score Viewer provides notation display, while Professional editions add the TrueTone Editor, which compares audio spectra with notes and supports correction of transcription results. These features make it more suitable for users who need to review and refine recognition output than for users seeking a simple one-click converter.
The product is sold through Standard and Professional editions for Windows and macOS, alongside separate Professional 30-day temporary licenses. Professional includes TrueTone Editor, while the temporary licenses include all WIDI features and expire after 30 days. The published starting price is 49.90, and a 20-day trial is available. WIDI is a sensible choice for desktop-based batch or real-time transcription, especially when polyphonic material, drums, notation, or note-level editing matter. Users who require a free plan, a DAW plugin, or a broader integration ecosystem should look elsewhere.
