Our verdict on Weblate
Weblate is a web-based continuous localization platform for developers, translators, and organizations managing multilingual software. It is designed for teams that keep translation work connected to development workflows, with Git and Mercurial integration, support for repositories such as GitHub, GitLab, Azure, Gitea, Bitbucket, and Pagure, and compatibility with formats including HTML, OpenDocument, XLIFF, JSON, and gettext. Self-hosted libre software, hosted plans, and a free hosted option for qualifying libre projects give teams several deployment paths.
Pricing is organized around hosted-string capacity. The 10k plan costs €47 per month and includes 10,000 hosted strings, unlimited languages, projects, and components. The 40k plan is €70 per month; 160k is €114; 640k is €193; 2.5M is €342; and 10M is €616 per month. Each listed hosted tier includes unlimited languages, projects, and components. Hosted plans include a 14-day trial. Self-hosted Weblate includes unlimited hosted strings, languages, projects, and components, with paid support available. Gratis Weblate includes 160,000 hosted strings, unlimited languages and components, and one project for qualifying libre projects.
Its strongest fit is continuous software localization rather than general-purpose translation work. Translation memory supports import, search, and reuse, while glossaries, terminology management, customizable quality checks, context, screenshots, comments, translator attribution, review tools, and machine-translation suggestions support an ongoing review process. The REST API, API documentation, and HTML and JavaScript localization through CDN add-ons extend its platform reach. Choose Weblate when open-source deployment, repository-based workflows, and localization depth matter; consider another option if the priority is a simpler translation tool without project and component administration.
