WeatherCAN review
A free Android app for Canadian forecasts, animated radar and weather alerts.

WeatherCAN is Environment and Climate Change Canada’s free Android weather app for people in Canada who want local conditions, forecasts and alerts in one place. It covers more than 10,000 Canadian locations, supports current and saved locations, and offers English and French language options. Its combination of forecasts, radar and air-quality information suits everyday planning as well as monitoring changing conditions.
The radar is a notable strength for users who want more than a forecast summary. A zoomable map displays high-resolution animated radar, with overlays for precipitation type and intensity and real-time lightning. The app also provides the Air Quality Health Index, while push notifications can cover severe weather, air-quality updates and extreme temperatures. A home-screen widget offers a quick view, and weather facts and climate tips appear in a message centre. This makes WeatherCAN a practical fit for people who value Canadian conditions and alerts alongside map-based context.
The trade-off is its focused scope: WeatherCAN is a mobile app for Android, with weather information centered on Canadian locations. It is not the right choice for someone seeking a desktop service or forecasts centered elsewhere. The published product details describe a free download, so there are no paid plan tiers to weigh. Choose WeatherCAN if Canadian coverage, bilingual support and detailed radar are priorities; look elsewhere if your forecast needs are outside Canada or you need a different platform.
