Our verdict on ViuTV
ViuTV brings Hong Kong television to a website and apps, with live streaming of digital channel 99 and catch-up viewing for most programmes. Its programming spans entertainment, drama, talk shows, children’s programmes, sports and news. It suits viewers who specifically follow ViuTV and want a free way to watch online, rather than people looking for a broad, multi-service streaming catalogue.
The Free plan provides website and app access, live channel 99 and catch-up for most programmes. ViuTV also offers programme catalogue and schedule information, plus interactive live viewing with chat and programme games. Subtitle options are available for some programmes, and video quality adjusts to the network connection, with HD playback supported. The service works on web, iOS and Android, as well as Apple TV, Android TV, selected Samsung and LG TVs, and now one set-top box. That range makes it accessible across phones, tablets and supported television devices, though the viewing experience remains centered on ViuTV’s own programming.
The main constraints are geographic availability and offline access: streaming is unavailable outside Hong Kong, and downloads for viewing without a connection are not supported. The service is therefore a better fit for viewers in Hong Kong who want live channel 99, schedule details and catch-up access than for travelers or anyone prioritizing downloaded viewing or a wide collection of unrelated services. The website and app are free to use, while the terms reserve the right to introduce fees for some services.
