verifydump is a free, open-source command-line tool for checking compressed CHD and RVZ disc images against datfiles from the Redump preservation project. It is intended for ROM preservation workflows where verification accuracy matters more than library browsing, metadata management, or file organization. The tool can process individual compressed image files or folders, accept zipped datfiles, and produce verbose diagnostic output for closer inspection.

Its core workflow is non-destructive. verifydump converts compressed images to the original formats described by the datfile, adjusts them to Redump conventions, and checks whether they match, while leaving verified source files unmodified. It also supports an additional CUE-file source and can allow CUE-file mismatches. Compatibility with Redump Datfiles, MAME chdman, binmerge, and DolphinTool gives it a clear place in workflows involving compressed disc images and related conversion tools.

The platform coverage is broad for a command-line utility: Windows binaries are available, while Linux and macOS installation is supported through pipx. The trade-off is its narrow scope. verifydump does not function as a full ROM manager, and its listed category specifications do not include file renaming. Choose it when the priority is checking CHD and RVZ files against Redump definitions with diagnostic detail and no source-file modification. Choose a broader ROM management tool when organizing, renaming, or managing a collection is the main task.
