Our verdict on VDR VNSI Client
For Kodi users with a VDR backend, VDR VNSI Client provides a PVR connection over the VNSI interface. It brings live TV streaming and recording playback into Kodi, with electronic program guide (EPG) data and timers also supported. The add-on is free, open source under GPL-2.0-or-later, and fits a specific setup: Kodi as the frontend, VDR as the backend, and the VNSI plugin connecting them. It is a practical match for viewers who already use that stack, rather than a general-purpose IPTV add-on.
Its scope is deliberately centered on the PVR job. Live channels and recordings are the playback options, while EPG data and timers cover program information and scheduling. Kodi’s official repository is the listed installation source, and manual ZIP installation is also documented. The supported platform list names Windows, Android, and macOS. That combination makes it relevant to Kodi users across those platforms, but its value depends on having VDR and VNSI in place; without that backend, the add-on’s core connection has no role.
The trade-off is narrow focus: the stated features do not extend beyond the VDR PVR workflow, so users looking for a broader media-management add-on should compare alternatives. Support is community-based, which may be adequate for users comfortable with community help but less suitable for those who need a direct support channel. Choose VDR VNSI Client if your goal is to connect Kodi to VDR for live TV, recordings, guide data, and timers. Skip it if you need a standalone TV service or a different backend integration.
