vAmiga review
A capable free Amiga emulator for Mac users who value debugging and flexibility.

vAmiga is a free, open-source emulator for classic Commodore Amiga systems on macOS. It targets users who want to run Amiga 500, Amiga 1000 and Amiga 2000 software on a Mac, with OCS and ECS chipset emulation and AGA support in the v5.0 Beta 1 release. Support for ADF, Extended ADF, DMS, EXE, IMG and HDF formats gives it a broad base for floppy, executable and hard-drive image workflows. USB gamepads and joysticks are supported, while supplied AROS replacement ROMs provide an alternative to original Kickstart ROMs.
The pricing model is straightforward: vAmiga is free and open source, with no paid tier described. Its platform fit is focused rather than broad, since the published host requirement is macOS 12 Monterey or later. Hardware acceleration is supported, and multiplayer can connect two emulator instances through an emulated null-modem cable. That makes vAmiga a strong match for Mac users who want native emulation and do not need Windows, Linux or mobile support.
Its standout advantage is the combination of emulation features and technical tools. Temporary emulator-state snapshots provide quick save points, while CPU, DMA and activity-monitor debugging tools support users who want to inspect emulator behavior. Screen recording through FFmpeg adds another practical option. The main trade-off is scope: the project concentrates on a limited set of Amiga machine families and a single host platform, while AGA coverage is tied to a beta release. Choose vAmiga for free macOS-based Amiga emulation with debugging, recording and multiplayer; choose an alternative if broader platform coverage or a wider range of machine families matters more.
