Our verdict on unraw

unraw is a desktop photo-culling application for photographers working on macOS. It opens folders or memory cards directly, without importing photos into a catalog, and displays previews stored inside RAW files for first-pass review. Keyboard navigation, ratings, labels, and flags help photographers move through large shoots and mark selections. Support covers major RAW formats such as CR3, CR2, NEF, ARW, RAF, DNG, ORF, RW2, PEF, and 3FR, alongside common image formats including JPEG, PNG, TIFF, WebP, HEIC, PSD, AVIF, and JPEG XL.

Pricing is straightforward. The Monthly plan costs €12 per month, while the Yearly plan costs €99 per year. A seven-day full trial is available before subscription purchase. The published plans make unraw a focused paid tool rather than a free utility. Its workflow is suited to photographers who want to review files in their existing folder structure, select keepers with keyboard controls, and continue chosen photos into Adobe Lightroom or another editing workflow.

Privacy and workflow fit are central strengths. unraw processes photos locally, without uploading photos, filenames, folders, or metadata. That makes it appropriate for private shoots and folder-based review, especially when avoiding a catalog is important. The trade-off is platform scope: it runs on macOS, and Adobe Lightroom is the named integration for the next editing stage. Photographers seeking a Mac-focused local reviewer for RAW folders or cards should find the feature set well aligned; teams needing broader platform coverage or a different catalog and editing ecosystem should look elsewhere.
