ufdbGuard is an open-source internet-filtering suite for organizations and network administrators managing access on their own infrastructure. It works with the Squid web proxy on Linux-based systems and can also integrate with a BIND DNS server. Filtering combines blacklist-based URL categories with user-defined URL tables and categories, while HTTPS tunnel detection, certificate controls, and hostname controls extend protection beyond basic URL matching. SafeSearch enforcement and time-based access-control lists support policy-driven browsing across managed networks.

Its strongest fit is a proxy-centered environment with existing identity and directory services. Different filtering policies can be assigned to users and groups, with LDAP, Kerberos, and Active Directory group integration available. Squid log analysis and usage reports provide visibility into internet activity, while scheduled access-control lists help apply different rules by time. This makes ufdbGuard more suitable for administrators who want granular control on their own systems than for teams seeking a hosted filtering service or a browser-focused product.

The software itself is free and open source. Paid plans cover the separately licensed URL database and regular content updates, with annual pricing shown at €10 per user for 11–50 users, €5.95 for 201–500 users, €4.95 for 501–1,000 users, and €3.95 for 1,001–2,000 users; larger deployments require a quote. The product also offers a 60-day free trial. Choose ufdbGuard for low-cost, self-hosted filtering with directory-aware policies and reporting. Consider an alternative if your environment does not use Linux, Squid, or BIND, or if you want filtering delivered as a hosted service.
