Ubiquiti WiFiman review
A free UniFi-focused app for device discovery and wireless troubleshooting.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Ubiquiti WiFiman is a free network discovery and troubleshooting app for people who manage or use UniFi networks. Its Discovery feature identifies UniFi devices connected to Wi-Fi and displays IP addresses and identifying information. WiFiman is most relevant to UniFi users who want to inspect network performance, check connectivity, or map wireless coverage; it is not a general-purpose Wi-Fi security scanner.
The mobile app combines speed tests over Wi-Fi or cellular data with wireless signal strength, throughput, latency, and roaming metrics when paired with a UniFi Gateway. On compatible LiDAR-equipped mobile devices, it can map signal strength across a floorplan. Desktop support is narrower: the described desktop app provides UniFi device discovery and Teleport VPN, while speed testing, wireless metrics, and floorplan mapping are mobile features. Teleport VPN provides remote access to a local UniFi network when used with a UniFi Gateway, making the app more useful for users already within Ubiquiti's ecosystem than for households with unrelated network equipment.
WiFiman's focus is diagnostics rather than security assessment. Its documented functions do not include checks for wireless weaknesses or alerts about network and device changes, so buyers seeking vulnerability detection or ongoing security monitoring should choose a scanner that explicitly offers those capabilities. For UniFi users who want a free way to identify devices, measure connection performance, and inspect coverage, the feature set is a practical fit; users needing broader hardware compatibility or dedicated security scanning should look elsewhere.
Ubiquiti WiFiman pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Discovers UniFi devices and shows their IP addresses and identifying details
- Measures speed and, with a UniFi Gateway, wireless signal and latency
- Maps signal across a floorplan on compatible LiDAR-equipped mobile devices
- Where it doesn't
- Does not provide documented security checks or weakness scanning
- Does not describe monitoring alerts for network or device changes
- Several features are mobile-only; desktop covers discovery and Teleport VPN
