Twelve Labs review
A developer-focused API for multimodal video search, analysis, and embeddings.

Twelve Labs is a video intelligence platform for organizations working with video at scale. It is designed for developers building search, analysis, and retrieval workflows across media, sports, advertising, government, security, and other video-heavy industries. Teams can index video, find moments with natural-language or image queries, analyze individual videos, generate multimodal embeddings, and use visual, audio, and spoken-word transcription modalities through an API-first workflow.
Pricing is usage-based rather than a conventional flat monthly subscription. The Free plan includes up to 10 hours of indexing, 600 minutes of total video usage, 90-day index access, 100 videos per index, and five concurrent indexing tasks. Developer pricing separates the main charges: video indexing is $2.50 per hour one time; embedding infrastructure services are $0.09 per hour billed monthly; and Search API usage is $4 per 1,000 queries. Developer limits include up to 10,000 hours of indexing, 100,000 videos per index, 25 concurrent indexing tasks, unlimited video hours usage, and unlimited index access. Enterprise adds committed-use contracts, unlimited indexing hours, and custom pricing and limits.
Its strongest fit is for teams that need multimodal search rather than transcript-only retrieval. REST API access, Python and Node.js SDKs, video analysis for summaries and answers, multimodal vector embeddings, and cross-video reasoning with the Jockey agent support a range of application designs. Integrations include Adobe Premiere Pro, Databricks, MongoDB, Oracle, Pinecone, Qdrant, Snowflake, and Vespa. The trade-off is a technical, API-only product with several usage meters, so teams wanting a packaged end-user video search workspace or simpler flat pricing should consider an alternative. Developers building video-heavy applications should find the breadth of search modalities and infrastructure options more relevant.
