A privacy-focused email service with strong encryption and open-source apps.

Tuta Mail is a secure email service for individuals, families, businesses, journalists, activists, and organizations that prioritize privacy. It provides web, desktop, and mobile apps across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. End-to-end encryption covers email content, subject lines, attachments, calendars, reminders, and contacts. The service also includes password-protected messages to external recipients, encrypted local search, and two-factor authentication through TOTP or U2F.
The permanent Free plan includes 1 GB of storage, one calendar, three labels, and end-to-end encryption. The €3-per-user-per-month annual-billing tier adds 20 GB of storage, 15 extra email addresses, three custom domains, unlimited calendars, and offline support. The €8-per-user-per-month annual-billing tier increases storage to 500 GB, includes 30 extra email addresses and 10 custom domains, and adds priority email support. Paid plans also support custom-domain email, while eligible plans can provide unlimited custom-domain addresses.
Tuta's main distinction is the breadth of its encryption model: the service protects more than message text alone, extending to calendars, contacts, reminders, and search indexing. Open-source clients are available across its supported platforms, and offline access is provided through desktop and mobile apps. The trade-off is platform separation: Tuta does not provide IMAP access, so users must work within its own clients rather than a conventional mail application. It also has no listed integrations. Choose Tuta for encrypted email and related personal information across major platforms; users who require mail-protocol access or an integration-heavy ecosystem should choose an alternative.
