ts-emu-c64 is an open-source TypeScript/JavaScript implementation of a simplified Commodore 64 that runs in a web browser. It is aimed at experimentation, learning, BASIC programming, and simple machine-code programs rather than general-purpose C64 compatibility. The emulator reaches the READY prompt, provides a BASIC environment, executes 6502 machine code, loads PRG files, and mounts D64 disk images in read-only mode. Its HTML canvas display and web worker handle the visual output and 6502 execution in the browser.

The main strength is its focused browser experience. Users can load PRG files by drag and drop, download a PRG file when using SAVE, and work with Commodore, Control, function, and navigation keys through keyboard mapping. That makes it suitable for short experiments without extending beyond the web platform. The project is free and open source, with no paid tiers described. Its scope also keeps the feature set clear: this is a lightweight environment for writing or running simple programs, not a broad C64 software platform.

Compatibility is the decisive limitation. ts-emu-c64 is explicitly not cycle accurate and will not run standard games. It also excludes sprites, cartridges, joysticks, cassette input, and substantial hardware emulation. D64 support is limited to read-only mounting, which restricts disk-based workflows that require writing. Choose ts-emu-c64 if browser access, BASIC, simple 6502 execution, and straightforward PRG handling are the priority. Choose an alternative if you need game compatibility, accurate timing, expanded hardware support, writable disk workflows, or a fuller Commodore 64 emulation experience.
