Our verdict on Translation.io

Translation.io is a cloud localization platform for software teams that need to synchronize application strings with a translation workspace. It is best suited to small developer teams localizing application strings across Ruby on Rails, Laravel, React, Angular or JavaScript projects. Teams can invite collaborators, assign roles and target languages, use shared translation memory, add custom tags, discuss context and review translation suggestions in the web interface. A REST API is also available for custom workflows.

Its pricing is usage-based rather than per user. The Active project plan costs €0.01 per translated target key per month and includes unlimited projects, languages and teammates, translation memory and API calls. Frozen projects cost €0.005 per translated target key per month, but synchronization and translation are unavailable while frozen. Qualifying open-source projects can use a free unlimited account after selecting the Open Source option, specifying a public repository and mentioning Translation.io in the public README. A 7-day free trial is also available.

The product’s strongest fit is continuous developer-led localization: source strings and translations stay synchronized, while integrations and automatic translation through Google Translate, DeepL and AI providers support several implementation paths. Custom tags help with filtering, change tracking and reporting, and collaborator roles keep translation responsibilities organized. Its focus is narrower than a broader translation operations suite. Teams that need vendor management, verified terminology management or translation-order workflows should choose a platform centered on those functions instead. Translation.io is a practical choice for teams prioritizing application-string synchronization, shared memory and predictable key-based billing.
