Tokn review
A private Android vault with broad imports, local sync, and recovery controls.

Tokn is a free, open-source authenticator for Android that generates TOTP and HOTP codes locally. It stores accounts in an encrypted SQLCipher vault and works without an account, cloud service, or Google Play Services. The product is aimed at individuals who want local control over authentication secrets, particularly Android users who prefer an offline workflow and direct ownership of backups and transfers.
Its strongest area is local data management. Accounts can be protected with biometric or password unlock, while encrypted backup and restore provide a way to preserve the vault. Device-to-device synchronization works over local Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, or animated QR codes. Imports from Aegis, 2FAS, Stratum, Google Authenticator, and otpauth URIs can reduce migration effort. Custom account groups, multiple groups per account, an audit log, and a recycle bin with configurable 30-day retention add useful organization and recovery controls.
Tokn is a focused choice rather than a broad platform. Its open-source model and local operation suit personal authentication, but Android-only coverage excludes users who need iOS, desktop, or cross-platform access. There is also no team administration or integration layer for centrally managed accounts. Choose Tokn if private local storage, encrypted transfers, and import flexibility matter most; consider an alternative if an organization needs administrative controls or a wider device ecosystem.
