Our verdict on Todaii Japanese
Todaii Japanese is a self-directed Japanese-learning app for learners who want reading, listening, vocabulary and exam preparation in one course. Its materials include news, culture, stories and other reading organized from N5 to N1, making it relevant to learners preparing for JLPT exams as well as those building general comprehension. The web app and iOS and Android apps support study across devices. Hiragana and Katakana lessons provide an additional starting point for learners working on the writing systems.
The course connects reading practice to tools for working through unfamiliar material: learners can look up vocabulary, sentences, kanji and grammar, then save vocabulary in lists and review it with flashcards. JLPT practice tests and reading exercises add exam-oriented work, while bilingual videos and podcasts with transcripts extend practice into listening. This breadth suits learners who want a connected routine around texts and media rather than a narrow reading-only resource. AI pronunciation scoring and practice, along with AI chat for Japanese conversation, add speaking activities to a product whose stated emphasis is reading, listening, vocabulary and exam preparation.
Todaii Japanese has a free plan, and the official US App Store listing describes a free app with in-app purchases; prices vary by region. The website does not publish a verifiable price list, so prospective subscribers should check the offer available in their region. Support is by email. Choose Todaii if leveled texts, JLPT work, reference tools and AI speaking practice in a web or mobile app match your study priorities. It may be a less direct fit for learners seeking a focused speaking course or a clearly priced subscription before signing up.
