Tilemap Studio is a desktop editor for tilemaps and tileset graphics in retro game projects, with particular relevance to Pokémon disassemblies and ROM hacks. It is aimed at solo creators and small teams working across multiple console targets, including Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, SNES, Genesis, and TG16. Its open-source model and focused toolset suit projects where tilemap editing is a distinct part of the workflow, rather than a need for a general ROM editor.

The editing tools cover selecting and placing individual or multiple tiles, replacing tiles, flood-filling areas, and swapping tiles. An Image to Tiles workflow adds a route from image assets into tile-based work. Tilemap Studio also imports and exports formats including C, CSV, and RMP, alongside Pokémon-specific tilemap formats. That breadth is useful for moving tilemap work among different project types and formats, while the emphasis remains on tilemaps and related graphics rather than broader ROM modification.

Tilemap Studio is available as a Windows release and can be built from source on Linux. It does not directly edit ROM images or create and apply patch files, so projects that require those tasks need another tool in their workflow. Support is community-based. Choose Tilemap Studio when tilemap creation across supported console projects—and Pokémon-specific format support—are the priority; look elsewhere if direct ROM editing or patch management is central to the job.
