Our verdict on The Story Maker

The Story Maker is a browser-based film production platform for filmmakers, directors, producers, first assistant directors, cinematographers, and production managers. It connects screenplay writing and analysis with automatic script breakdowns, production-element tagging, stripboard and Day-Out-of-Days scheduling, cast tracking, budgeting, location and equipment planning, storyboards, and daily call sheets. Its shared project script and schedule are designed to keep downstream production documents connected. Screenplay uploads and exports support PDF, FDX, and Fountain files, while AI features and multiple-language workflows extend the planning scope.

Pricing is structured around one-time credit packs rather than a recurring subscription. The First Film Pack costs INR 999 and includes 2,500 credits, all AI features unlocked, and up to 15 projects. The Starter Pack costs INR 1,999 with 5,000 credits and the same project limit. Growth costs INR 5,999 and includes 15,750 credits with 750 bonus credits, while Scale costs INR 11,999 and includes 33,000 credits with 3,000 bonus credits; both support up to 15 projects and unlock all AI features. A Production House Workspace adds up to 500 seats, a shared credit pool, Google Workspace SSO, a dedicated account manager, and priority render nodes.

The main strength is breadth: The Story Maker covers planning from screenplay analysis through shoot-ready documentation, including cast work, hold, and wrap tracking, shot-division storyboards, cost sheets, and broad export formats. That makes it a strong fit for Indian filmmakers who want a one-time purchase across several production tasks instead of separate tools. The trade-off is platform scope: it is available on the web only, and the individual packs are capped at 15 projects. Teams needing a broader platform footprint or a different project-volume model should compare alternatives before choosing it.
