Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026

The Skindex at minecraftskins.com has collected community-made Minecraft skins since 2010 and calls itself the largest and best source of them, and its editor is built to feed that gallery. The layout is plain: a tool column with pencil, eraser, eyedropper and fill tools, undo and redo, a colour wheel with a hex field, and a live 3D model on which body parts can be switched off individually and the outer layer shown or hidden, which helps when painting sleeves, hair or a jacket.

Models come in Classic with four-pixel arms or Slim with three-pixel arms, a skin file can be imported from disk, and a Reset button returns to a blank start. Because the editor sits inside the gallery, the Top, Latest and Recently Commented lists are one click away for inspiration, finished work can go back to the site through its Upload page, and a Skin Grabber page sits in the same menu. A search box looks up skins or users across the gallery, and the editor itself is free to use.

The editor is intentionally simple: its toolbar has none of the layers, filters or posing tools found in the editors ranked above, and the site publishes few details about the editor beyond the controls on screen. The pages around it are busy with site navigation and other panels that push the canvas down the screen, especially on laptops. For a beginner who wants to start from a popular community skin and change a few colours, it is quick and familiar; artists who want finer control will outgrow it.

The Skindex pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Straightforward pencil, eraser, eyedropper and fill tools with undo
    • Classic 4-pixel and slim 3-pixel arm models, with body and outer layers
    • Top, Latest and Recently Commented galleries sit one click away
  • Where it doesn't
    • None of the layers, filters or posing found in the editors above
    • Busy pages push the editor down the screen
    • Few written details about the editor's features
