Our verdict on Text Inspector
Text Inspector is a web-based English text analysis tool for language educators, exam boards, researchers, material developers and organisations. It evaluates text difficulty, CEFR levels, vocabulary, lexical diversity and readability. Its core readability scoring includes Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level and the Gunning Fog Index, alongside sentence statistics, parts-of-speech tagging and other linguistic measures. The product is also available through an API for applications that need integrated text analysis.
The published plans are structured around progressively broader access. The Free plan has a 250-word limit. Standard adds data export, English Vocabulary Profile analysis, Academic Word List analysis and a Scorecard. Organisation includes those same capabilities for up to 10 people. Developers provides full API access, while the API has a separate 30-day free test period. The pricing page presents plans on monthly and yearly terms, and the product also offers a 30-day trial. This structure suits individual evaluation, paid analytical work, small teams and application developers, depending on the required access level.
Text Inspector’s main strength is breadth within English-language analysis rather than a narrow readability score. Along with three formulas and sentence statistics, it compares text with the British National Corpus and Corpus of Contemporary American English, examines vocabulary through the English Vocabulary Profile, and includes lexical diversity and parts-of-speech analysis. That makes it a strong fit for users who need linguistic depth for teaching, research, assessment or content development. It is less suitable for teams that need multilingual analysis, or for users seeking only a simple, unrestricted readability check. Choose it when vocabulary, CEFR and corpus context matter; consider an alternative when English-only analysis does not fit the workflow.
