Guided SARS filing with AI answers, deduction prompts, automated checks and human support.

TaxTim is an online tax-preparation and filing service for South African individuals, freelancers, entrepreneurs and companies. It uses plain-language questions to guide return preparation, imports available information from SARS eFiling, highlights deductions, checks returns and submits them directly to SARS. TimAI answers South African tax questions, while a human tax-practitioner helpdesk provides additional support. The service covers individual income tax, provisional tax and selected company tax returns across web, iOS and Android.
TaxTim uses a freemium model, with published pricing starting at R215 per tax return submission. The Lite plan covers standard salary income, IRP5/IT3(a), pension income and other simple income types. Smart adds medical expenses, travel allowance, investments, retirement annuity contributions, home-office deductions, donations, capital gains, and assets and liabilities. Ultra adds commission expenses, rental income, self-employed income, foreign employment, foreign taxes paid and partnership income. Separate plans cover individual and company IRP6 submissions, dormant company ITR14 returns and micro-business ITR14 returns. TaxTim automatically assigns the lowest-cost tier matching the return's complexity.
The strongest fit is for taxpayers who want guided preparation rather than a blank tax form. SARS eFiling profile linking and data import reduce repeated entry, while document storage, deadline reminders and filing history support recurring tax administration. The combination of 1,300+ automated checks, deduction prompts, TimAI answers and human helpdesk support gives users several layers of assistance. Taxpayers with straightforward or moderately complex South African returns should find the plan structure relevant; those needing tax work outside the listed individual, provisional-tax or selected company-return coverage should consider a more specialized alternative.
