Our verdict on TamTam
TamTam is a messaging app from VK LLC for people who want chats, channels, calls, and file sharing across web, desktop, and mobile. Its public and private chats support up to 20,000 participants, while channels provide public and private options for broadcasting messages. That scale makes it a candidate for large communities and organizations that want to share files and publish updates in one service. It also supports solo and small-business use, though its large-chat capabilities are the clearest fit for buyers comparing WhatsApp alternatives.
File sharing and broadcasting are central strengths. TamTam supports files up to 2 GB and unlimited cloud storage, and its messaging includes forwarding, replies, and read status. Channels can carry messages to an audience without relying only on conversational group chat. Group video calls support up to 100 participants, and developers can use the Bot API to build bots that interact with users and chats. The service is available through web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android apps, with cloud, desktop, and mobile deployment options.
TamTam is free, and the published product information describes a free messaging service rather than paid tiers. It is not open source, and support is offered by email. GDPR is listed as a compliance attribute. Buyers with sensitive conversations should weigh the fact that default end-to-end encryption is not verified; those needing verified encryption or an open-source messenger may prefer another option. Also, the 20,000-participant figure is specified for chats, not necessarily ordinary groups. Choose TamTam for large chats and channels, substantial file sharing, and bot capabilities; look elsewhere if verified encryption is a requirement.
