Our verdict on TalkSmart

TalkSmart centers English learning on spoken conversations with AI tutors, with activities for listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary alongside speaking practice. A placement test assigns a CEFR level for personalized practice, and session reports cover pronunciation, fluency and grammar. Role-play scenarios and IELTS speaking mock tests make it particularly relevant to learners who want structured speaking practice, including IELTS preparation. Progress tracking adds streaks, XP and exams. It is aimed at individual learners who want several practice modes in one app, rather than a tool for classrooms or teams.

The free plan includes daily practice sessions, a placement test, progress tracking, a word bank and a word game. Starter costs $5.19 per month and adds 10 speaking sessions per month, three daily exercises in other modules, an ad-free experience and basic progress analytics. Pro is $14.99 per month or $109.99 per year, with 33 speaking sessions per month, unlimited reading and listening, AI writing feedback and an ad-free experience. The paid plans make the session limits important: Starter suits occasional speaking practice, while Pro is the option for more sessions and broader reading, listening and writing features. A 3-day free trial is also offered.

Its strongest fit is the combination of voice practice and feedback with IELTS mock tests, CEFR-aligned grammar exercises, level-tailored reading, listening content and spaced vocabulary review. That breadth can support learners who want to rotate among skills while keeping speaking central. TalkSmart is available on the web and iOS; Android users can use the browser version, but there is no Android app. Choose it if AI conversation, IELTS speaking practice and level-based activities match your priorities. Consider another option if you need a native Android app or more than 33 speaking sessions per month.
