SynCaps review
A free Windows analyzer with deep statistical outputs, but no built-in participant recruitment.

SynCaps is Syntagm Ltd’s card-sorting analysis software for UX and information-architecture research. The free SynCaps V3 application runs on Windows and analyzes card-sort data collected on paper or through external online tools. It supports open, closed and hybrid sorts, making it suitable for solo researchers and larger teams that need desktop-based analysis rather than an end-to-end recruitment platform.
The published V3 offering centers on analysis depth at no license cost. Users can work with five customizable charts, dendrograms, item-by-group analysis and pairs-map visualizations. Reference or expert sorts can be compared with participant results, while nested groups and participant-created hierarchies support more detailed information-architecture review. Participant filtering and cluster analysis help separate patterns within a study. Spreadsheet export files and generated SPSS scripts extend the workflow into external reporting and statistical analysis.
SynCaps requires a Windows desktop workflow and externally collected participant responses, so setup includes getting card-sort data into the application before analysis. That focus suits analysts who already have a collection method and want extensive charting, hierarchy views and statistical handoff. It is less suitable for teams seeking browser-based sorting, integrated remote recruitment or a cross-platform workspace. Syntagm’s SynCaps V4 site describes planned online open, closed and hybrid sorting, but the current description places those capabilities outside the available V3 workflow. Choose SynCaps for free, desktop-centered analysis; choose another tool when participant recruitment and online study execution are central requirements.
