Our verdict on Swarm
Swarm brings community, learning, live video, memberships, payments, and gamification into one platform. It is aimed at experts, coaches, and creators running visual or skills-based programs, including coaching, fitness, dance, music, wellness, and parenting. Members can participate in threaded discussions, video and voice messages, direct messages, and group conversations while accessing courses and events in community spaces. The platform supports web, iOS, and Android access through a progressive web app, and includes a 14-day trial without a credit card.
Its strongest fit is a paid learning community that needs more than course hosting. The native course builder supports modules, ordered lessons, PDFs, embeds, quizzes, and certificates. Native live events add live video, recordings, calendars, and guest access, while paid access can cover memberships, courses, downloads, tickets, and bookings. Gamification adds points, levels, leaderboards, badges, and streaks. Launch costs $19 per month with annual billing or $29 monthly, with unlimited courses, unlimited events up to 30 minutes per session, multi-tier memberships, a branded store, and live streams for up to 50 members. Growth costs $79 annually or $89 monthly and adds live stream recordings plus events up to 60 minutes per session.
Scale is the more suitable tier for organizations that need brand control or multiple communities. At $149 per month with annual billing or $199 monthly, it includes full white label, a branded mobile app, unlimited spaces, unlimited members per space, API access, and SSO. Stripe, Zapier, API access, and SSO support ecosystem connections, although the Launch tier's one-space limit may constrain separate programs or audiences. Choose Swarm when community interaction, gamified participation, courses, and live events belong in the same paid experience. Consider an alternative if you need multiple spaces at the entry tier, larger Launch live sessions, or a conventional native app-store experience.
