SuperTokens review
A cost-conscious passwordless auth stack with cloud and self-hosted deployment choices.

SuperTokens is an open-source authentication provider for developers building web and mobile applications. It supports passwordless sign-in with magic links, email and SMS one-time codes, passkeys, biometrics, security keys, and device credentials. Teams can use its managed cloud service or deploy the open-source SuperTokens Core in their own infrastructure. The product also covers sessions, social and enterprise login providers, multi-tenancy, organizations, role-based access control, migration from existing authentication providers, and prebuilt or customizable sign-in UI.
Pricing gives teams two main deployment paths. The Cloud plan costs $0.02 per monthly active user and is free under 5,000 monthly active users. Self-hosted open-source features are free with no free monthly active user count limit. The Multi-factor Authentication add-on costs $0.01 per monthly active user and is available for both cloud and self-hosted deployments. Account Linking costs $0.005 per monthly active user, while Dashboard users cost $20 per user per month. This structure suits teams that want to align authentication costs with active usage, but paid capabilities need to be budgeted separately.
Its ecosystem supports web, iOS, Android, APIs, and self-hosted deployments, with integrations including Next.js, NestJS, GraphQL, RedwoodJS, Capacitor, AWS Lambda, Netlify, Vercel, Hasura, and Supabase. That breadth makes SuperTokens a practical fit for development teams that want implementation flexibility and control over infrastructure. It is less suited to buyers prioritizing extensive enterprise SSO detail or verified directory synchronization. Choose it for affordable passwordless authentication, customizable flows, and deployment choice; consider an alternative when directory-driven enterprise identity is the primary requirement.
