StarDrop review
A chemistry-focused discovery suite with visualisation, predictive modelling and design tools.

StarDrop from Optibrium Ltd. supports small-molecule drug discovery, with tools aimed at medicinal chemists and drug discovery teams working on compound design and optimisation. Its interactive charts and chemical-space visualisations sit alongside structure–activity relationship analysis, predictive QSAR models, and multi-parameter optimisation of activity, ADME and physicochemical properties. Teams focused on molecule-level discovery may find this breadth useful; it is less suited to work centred on target identification or drug repurposing.
The chemistry workflow extends beyond visualisation and modelling. Optional modules cover ADME and toxicity prediction, metabolism analysis, generative chemistry, virtual-library enumeration, and 3D ligand- and structure-based molecular design. Metabolic pathway and potential metabolite identification add another analysis angle, while real-time collaboration and idea tracking support shared work. Integrations include CDD Vault, eMolecules, ChEMBL, PubChem, PDB, ScienceCloud, Mcule, Google Patent and Google Scholar. This makes StarDrop a fit for teams combining internal compound data with external chemistry and literature sources, rather than groups seeking a narrowly focused single-purpose tool.
According to the vendor's pricing information, the Individual package starts at $10,000 per year for one user, with on-premise or cloud-hosted deployment. Team and Enterprise packages are available, and package pricing depends on team size, deployment and selected modules. A 30-day free trial is offered. Deployment options include desktop, cloud and self-hosted; core desktop software is for Windows and macOS, while Linux is documented for server components, and cloud access is available. Email and documentation are listed support channels, and ISO 27001 is listed as a compliance credential. StarDrop is a stronger fit for teams that need integrated chemistry analysis and design; groups with limited budgets or needs outside molecule-level discovery should look elsewhere.
