stable-diffusion.cpp review
A flexible, self-hosted runtime for local diffusion inference across desktop and mobile backends.

stable-diffusion.cpp is an open-source C/C++ inference runtime for local image, image-editing and video diffusion workloads. Built on ggml, it runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and Android through Termux, making it suited to solo developers and small teams that want self-hosted execution across desktop or mobile hardware. The command-line executable can be downloaded as a release or built from source, and it operates without external dependencies.
Its main strength is breadth across models and hardware. The runtime supports Stable Diffusion, SDXL, SD3/3.5, FLUX, Wan, Qwen Image and other models, with CPU, CUDA, Vulkan, Metal, OpenCL and SYCL backends. Workflow features include LoRA, ControlNet, IP-Adapter, PhotoMaker, image-to-image, upscaling and video-model inference. Quantized execution and conversion to GGUF can reduce model footprint, while PyTorch checkpoint, Safetensors and GGUF formats provide multiple model-loading paths.
The trade-off is an engineering-oriented setup rather than a managed application experience. Users choose between downloadable binaries and source builds, then handle model files, backend selection and runtime operation themselves. That approach fits people who need local control, varied accelerator support or deployment through Termux; it is less suited to teams seeking hosted inference, graphical workflow management or vendor-operated support. Choose stable-diffusion.cpp when an MIT-licensed, self-hosted runtime and broad diffusion-model coverage matter more than a turnkey interface.
