Our verdict on Squarespace

Squarespace is a website builder aimed at users who want a polished online presence without making endless design decisions. Its templates are opinionated, with strong typography defaults, while the Fluid Engine editor supports overlapping images and text on a grid that reflows for phones. The platform also resizes uploaded images and serves them sharply across breakpoints. These characteristics make it a strong fit for photographers, creative businesses, restaurants and other organizations that value presentation and a guided design process.

The published offering includes a 14-day trial, but there is no free tier, so ongoing use requires budgeting for an annual plan from the outset. Squarespace includes built-in commerce that is suitable for a few dozen products, although larger catalogs may encounter platform limitations. Extensibility is the main trade-off: there is no app market to speak of, and the developer route relies on code injection and custom CSS. The result is a more controlled environment, but with fewer options for adding third-party tools or substantially changing how the platform works.

Choose Squarespace if the priority is a refined site with minimal configuration, especially for a creative business, restaurant or compact online store. Its templates, editing system and image workflow support a cohesive visual result, while the built-in commerce tools cover smaller product ranges. Look elsewhere if the site depends on a large catalog, extensive integrations or a broad ecosystem of add-ons. Wix is the more suitable direction for owners who expect to bolt on lots of tools, while Squarespace is better suited to businesses that prefer an integrated, design-led platform.
