SpotOn Retail review
A low-cost retail terminal with offline payments, reporting and optional website service.

SpotOn Retail is a point-of-sale system for independent shops such as boutiques, bookstores, gift shops, hobby shops and local markets. Its focus is checkout and payments: the wireless all-in-one terminal accepts cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, while the built-in printer handles receipts. Small retailers looking for straightforward terminal payments, including during internet outages, are the clearest fit. Businesses that need barcode scanning or inventory tracking should look at alternatives with those capabilities.
Pricing is monthly. The Terminal plan costs $25 per month and includes a POS terminal, receipt printing and sales reports. For $90 per month, Terminal + Website adds a professional website and in-store payments. The product description also notes one-time hardware fees, so retailers should account for those separately when considering cost. The higher tier is relevant to shops that want a website service alongside the terminal; shops focused on in-store checkout may find the lower-priced plan more aligned with their needs.
Payment continuity and reporting are notable strengths: offline mode processes card transactions during internet outages and syncs later, and reports are available on the terminal and online dashboard. A virtual terminal supports remote payments and emailed receipts, while optional loyalty rewards, multi-location support and connections with Shippo and DoorDash extend the toolkit. SpotOn Retail runs on web and Android, uses proprietary hardware, and lists PCI DSS compliance and phone support. Its current retail terminal offering does not support barcode scanning or inventory tracking, despite stock-management language associated with an earlier launch. Choose it for payment-focused retail checkout; choose another POS if stock control or barcode workflows are central.
